Introduction to Arranging and Writing Skills

This week we talked about different dynamics and articulation and analyzed a jazz arrangement of "Star Wars". We discussed reharmonization techniques and examined a reharm of Ariana Grande's "Thank You Next". We then discussed the basics of rhythm section and how to notate for drum set. Homework: 1) Arranging Workbook Pg 29-32 2) Optional: Write a reharmonization for a well-known song with new chords and analysis

This week we learned about the bass line. It is important to remember that the bass sounds an octave lower than written, has strings E, A, D, G (tuned in fourths), and should be written with chord symbols and slash notation or written notes. Swing, Bossa Nova, Rock, Samba, and Funk all have different rhythms and the root is almost always the downbeat of the measure.
